Back with another post on Taiwan! So, on day 3, I was still in Kaohsiung. We decided to travel to the island on the outskirt of Kaohsiung- Cijin Island. So first we took the MRT to the station- Siziwan which was on the orange line. Tadah, my single journey coin that works like our ez-link card. We had to scan to get into the station and deposit into the coin slot at the barrier to exit out.

Take exit 1 to get to Kaohsiung pier for the ferry ride to Cijin Island. We decided to rent bikes for the island tour. You can actually rent bike from both Kaohsiung or Cijin. We rented them at Kaohsiung as the pier was a distant away from the MRT station and the cost was the same regardless where you rent. And the good thing was, there was no time limit for the return of bikes.

B and I decided to rent a tandem bike, which was B's first! Hahaha. A picture of us before we embarked on a day of adventure and serious butt work out!

The Kaohsiung pier. You can pay for the ride either via a transport card or coins. There is discount for students! So do remember to ask the ticketing officer what are the rates. The ferry was used like a public transportation and there were so many scooters and bikes waiting to board the ferry!

Check out the people on board the ferry. They were all facing the exit so they could exit out quickly once the ferry docked at the pier. As excited tourists, we went the opposite direction to get a good view of the scenery on board the ferry!

After disembarking the ferry, we went on our island tour! The first destination was the lighthouse on the Island. We had to park our bikes and make our way up on foot as no bikes are allowed.

This little doggie was so cute! It was so excited, trying to follow people up the lighthouse. But this fellow would always stop midway and make its way down to repeat the cycle all over again. Haha. I tried to approach it, but it was too shy.

And the lighthouse! The weather was really hot that day, and we retreated inside the lighthouse to get a breather and cool ourselves down. There was a dedicated area for people to learn more about the history of the lighthouse.

There was a model of the lighthouse inside the lighthouse. Inception of lighthouses. Hahah. :D

There is a picture of us with the lighthouse! So touristy I must say.

And this was one of my favourite picture of the day. Taken from above. The buildings were all so colourful and looking so miniature. And the sea was a stunning blue that merged with the light blue sky. <3

Then we went to the grand cannon area. But there wasn't any cannons around! So we just took pictures as the lighting was good.

"Hello!" from Cijin. :D

Success picture after several failed attempts! Had no idea what that pier was though but we readjusted so many times just to get it in the picture. Hahaha.

And we met the cute doggie again on our way to our bikes. Must be tired from all the running.

The weather was really killing that day and I forgot to apply my sunblock. So when I saw an ice cream van, I just could not resist! We all stopped for ice cream!

My sour plum and milk icecream. :D:D We were so excited, we left our bikes in the sun! Silly us, but we shifted them after the very kind old lady told us. And she thought I was crazy wearing sleeveless. She insisted that I should be wearing long-sleeves to shield from the sun rays. But the weather was too hot! I just could not imagine myself with long sleeve. Probably get heat stroke!

And we tried the grilled cuttlefish from this store. There were many others selling, but none of them had as big a cuttlefish as hers! It was a recommendation from the ice cream vendor.

Gotten a bubblepop soda before heading to the wholesale market behind (the very colourful building). There were many dry goods stores selling similar items such as dried cuttlefish, fish floss and what not. We selected our store based on sincerity of the store keeper and the freshness of the goods. We bought quite a bit and the prices were definitely cheaper than any other place in Taiwan. So do pop by and grab some if you are in the area. We bought dried cuttlefish, fish floss and dried seaweed meant as seasoning for rice/porridge.

And off for lunch! Cijin is famous for cheap and fresh seafood! Remember to always ask for their prices before committing. The stores would look after your bikes while you enjoy your meal, so no worries!

We ordered a crab to share and some other dishes. But we were too hungry that the other dishes were eaten before a photo could be taken. Hahaha.

And we ended off with two large bowls of snow ice! It was so good and cheap!! I compared the price with Taipei. It was less than half the price of Taipei's! And a lifesaver in that hot hot weather. The mango flavour was stronger while the milk flavour was more fragrant.

And we made our way to the Cijin pier. I think it looked so much nicer than the Kaohsiung counterpart actually. On the other hand, it looks like the exterior of a church rather than a pier! Haha.

And upon reaching back Kaohsiung, we found this pao store! This was so much better than the one we had at Kenting!

It was located opposite the Kaohsiung Pier and definitely worth a try. We actually saw it on Channel 8 while planning for our trip and decided to hunt down the store. The friendly concierge at Icon helped to locate the store. Read more about Icon in my Grad trip to Taiwan Fun Day 2

And here is B with the Charcoal Chicken Mushroom Pao. It was really soft and the meat was really tender! I am practically drooling thinking about it.

Our adventure didn't just end here. We decided to explore Kaohsiung on our bikes! And I shall let the photos to do the talking from here. We went to the Fishermen Wharf, Love Pier and the Bo'er Art Lane!

B goofing around with the Art display at Bo'er! Hahah. His aspiration yo!

The super tired me with a high bun that made me looked like a Tao Priest! Haha

And from here onward, you will see a lot of pictures of 2 fat figures- a man and a lady. There are actually the main attractions at the Bo'er lane and are painted by designers and artists. The two figures represents that people in Kaohsiung. In the past, the men were involved in construction work hence the worker helmet and utility belt as well as the huge muscles! The ladies were fishmongers, hence the hat and arm sleeves. The big butt of the ladies is to represent their role in reproduction! Hahah. I thought they were really cute!

We decided to post like the figurines with the most iconic duo at Bo'er. They were the first to the many that came after! Hahaha. I think we looked superb hilarious in the picture! Favourite picture of the day! :D

We saw Transformer- Bubble Bee! It was actually the Transformer that was used in Mayday's world tour concert. And as ambassador of Kaohsiung, they donated the Transformer and it is now residing at the Bo'er Art Lane. Everybody was clamoring for a shot with the Bubble Bee!

And we successfully gotten our picture taken! :D

And the huge fishermonger lady! Look at how small we were compared to her and her huge butt! HAHA

And with that we bid Kaohsiung good bye and head down to our next destination- Chiayi!

We took the High Speed Rail once again and it was only about an half hour journey. Would like it to be longer as I was really tired from a whole day of adventure in Kaohsiung-Cijin.

Chiayi High Speed Rail was really far from the city center but there was a free shuttle service running from the station to the city center. So remember to keep your train tickets to verify for the free ride. We were given a card after the driver verified our train tickets for our free ride which we must return upon alighting.

And we arrived at our Hotel- Day Plus. We had a hard time getting to Day Plus as the drivers didn't know hotels by their English name and we thought we didn't have the Chinese name of the hotel. (It was on our Agoda Hotel Vouchers actually!) And when we finally got to the hotel, the staff told us they were "Day hotel" and not "Day plus hotel". And we got really confused. But after showing our Agoda voucher, everything was settled. Finally!

Here is the address if you guys are interested. A comfortable stay with contemporary design. Breakfast are included too. However, it was a distant from the only night market in Chiayi.

Here is Vivid settling down nicely in a new environment! :D

Hope you enjoy the read. (: Till the next post, XOXO!
