It is the weekends and I really want to share this awesome possum Zi Char store that I went yesterday! B suggested eating at Ang Mo Kio as his mum needed to attend some matters at AMK after dinner. I decided to google for places to eat at Ang Mo Kio and one of the results was Kam Jia Zhuang. I read the reviews on HungryGoWhere and was sold!

http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/kam_jia_zhuang_seafood/ This is the link to the HungryGoWhere page that features this Zi Char store.

This Zi Char store was actually featured on Channel 8 variety program 煮炒来咯! It wasn't difficult to locate the store even though it was tucked in a little corner of the coffee shop. This is how the store front looks like. Very eye catching with all those delicious food pictures at the side and the newspaper clippings with the photos of Pornsak and Lee Teng.

It was a Saturday night, but I thought the heavy rain last night would mean a smaller eating crowd, but upon arrival at 8.30pm, the whole coffee shop was packed with hungry people! The only 2 stores operating with a majority feasting on the food selection from Kam Jia Zhuang, I knew we made the right choice. Actually en route to the coffee shop, we decided to call the store up to make an impromptu reservation as the reviews on HungryGoWhere suggested that reservations should be made to avoid disappointment. I was so glad we did and as we ordered our food beforehand, we did not have to wait long for our food. We ordered three dishes based on the reviews! Haha

The first dish that arrived on our table. 东坡肉 - dong po pork belly ($13 small). It was so good. I know it is really sinful to eat this, but heck it, it was so awesome. It sort of melted in my mouth and the flavouring was done really well. The gravy went well with the rice. Not too salty nor watery with a tinge of sweetness. It came with a side of Xiao Bao Chai.

Next dish up was 干贝金菇豆腐 (beancurd with conpoy and golden mushroom – small $9) According to the reviews stated online, the dish was made fresh daily from soy milk with no harmful additives and preservatives. However, I was a tad disappointed with this dish. The beancurd had not much flavour though I had to say it was really smooth and silky. The gravy was lighter than the Dong Po. I like golden mushrooms so I was quite happy with the generous amount of it. However, in my honest opinion, I will not recommend this dish and I think it was quite pricey.

And the last dish  金瓜奶王虾球 (deep-fried prawn ball with pumpkin and butter sauce – small $15)! We had to wait awhile for this but it was really worth it. The dish had a very nice golden yellow colour making it looked really appetizing The prawns were crispy and the sauce was thick rich tasting and gooey. According to the reviews the sauce in this dish was made from mashed pumpkin which has been steamed for 3 hours and cooked with evaporated milk and curry leaves. So much effort for this dish. I would really recommend this dish- for $15, I had 8 succulent prawns cooked with a heavenly paste. Definitely my favourite among the three dishes I'd ordered that night.

I am already thinking of going back for more as there are still many things on the menu I would like to try like  the Black current Sauce Pork Ribs, Claypot Sea Cucumber with Fish Maw and Deep Fried Chrysanthemum Garoupa with Special Sauce.

And if you have been following my instagram, you will have know that I received this goodies from B. This is my exam welfare pack and in his words "Your last exam welfare, next time will be for work!" He actually brought me to NTUC and started to pile up the basket with all these goodies. So happy. He knows that he has to take good care of my tummy! Wee¬

An another surprise!

My favourite Binggrae Banana Flavoured Milk Drink, courtesy of my dear sister! She bought this in Malaysia and lugged it all the way back for me because I mentioned that I couldn't find it in my regular hunts and is really disappointed. Haha. I fell in love with this Banana Milk when I went Korea last year. I really don't like banana milk in the past because I had food poisoning the first time I drank banana milk. But all my friends were telling me to try it when they knew I was heading up to Korea. In Korea, it was the fresh milk version in the Yakult looking bottle as seen on the above package. It is more like a fat and stout bottle. I remembered the first time I tried was at a Family Mart in Jeju near my accommodation. I told B that I wanted to try and if it isn't nice, he would have to finish it up. (He loves Banana! It's not being mean k!) But after I had my first mouthful, we were both fighting to drink from the bottle. Haha. No kid, but it was really good. I tried the green cap (original), brown cap (caramel), blue cap (low fat) and pink cap (strawberry) but I still love the original the most. I remember drinking practically everyday in Korea. I was missing it so badly in Singapore until I chanced upon the UHT packets during the food exhibition at Suntec last year. I bought immediately and though it wasn't as awesome as the fresh milk version, I'm more than happy to settle my cravings this way. :D Been sharing my stash with B ever since. When I showed him this picture, his instantaneous reply was "I want!" Think we can be called the "Banana Milk Couple" already. Hahah.

Alright, time for my dinner! Till the next time... :D
